Branson Women’s Tennis Team Eyes NCS Title

The Branson Girls' Tennis Team

The Branson Girls’ Tennis Team

Branson Girls’ Varsity Tennis will play their first North Coast Section (NCS) match later today against the tournament’s 7th seeded team, Head Royce. The Bulls enter as the 2nd seed.

After the team’s MCAL season ended in the playoffs with a tough loss against Tam, the squad focused its attention on returning to the finals of  regional competition. Sophomore Emma Hirschkop, the team’s #4 singles player, said that their goal for NCS is “to win and beat Piedmont in the finals.”

The path to being named the number 2 seed in the tournament hasn’t been easy. The Bulls faced their fair share of adjustments this season as they transitioned between coaches and welcomed a surge of new players. Early in their season in particular, the loss of seven seniors from the 2014 team posed a challenge. However, the changes have not kept them from again emerging as a top team in the Bay Area. Sophomore Clia Elwin, the team’s #6 singles player, said the young team has been really solid, adding that all the freshmen newcomers “are really strong players.”

The new and veteran members of the team will have a chance to demonstrate just how strong today at 2:00pm, when they open NCS play
against Head Royce at College of Marin.
